Summer 2024
As a Summer Intern for the State of Indiana Public Works Department, I served as a Digital Archivist Intern, contributing to the preservation and organization of the architectural drawings and materials.
This role provided me with the opportunity to:
- Utilize a Versascan 3650 to digitize hundreds of architectural drawings, ensuring their longevity and accessibility.
- Organize and manage both physical drawings and their digital counterparts in compliance with archival best practices.
- Shadow a Public Works Project Manager to gain insight into project oversight and operations.
- Visit Public Works sites to evaluate and acquire architectural drawings for digitization and preservation.
- Attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new joint school for the Indiana School for the Deaf and the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
- Participate in a hands-on paper mending and cleaning workshop led by the State Archives Conservation Lab. This workshop provided practical training in dry-cleaning and repairing torn or dirty documents without the use of tape, and taught the importance of specific supplies and methods to ensure the long-term care of fragile materials.
This experience allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of digital archiving processes while contributing to the preservation of key state architectural resources.
